Stop Sacking Kuwaitis In Govt Sector – Expats Big Number In Oil Sector
Assistant Secretary-General of the Public Sector Workers Union at Kuwait Trade Union Federation Obaid Al-Ajmi has asked governmental institutions to stop referring citizens for retirement until the approval of the new retirement bill in order to maintain national expertise victimized by policies purportedly aimed at generating jobs for citizens, reports Al-Qabas daily.
Al-Ajmi pointed out the policy on referring citizens for retirement has become a rule followed by governmental institutions, instead of being an exceptional case. He argued this indicates the failure of employment policies and constitute temporary solutions to hire nationals. He called for amendment of employment and hiring policies and to open new fields for nationals in various sectors.
He cited officials statistics stating that about half million expatriates are working in the public and oil sectors under governmental contracts as they took the job opportunities at the expense of nationals.
He said this figure refutes claims on the successful implementation of the Kuwaitization policy in the public sector and 35 percent reduction of expatriate workforce.
He went to say that the manipulation of figures and rates does not change the regretful reality in the labor market; hence, the need for revision of policies in order to restructure the market and the concerned institutions
