Scpd Touted Kuwait’s Moves To Materialize The 17 Un Sustainable Development Goals
Secretary General of Kuwait’s Supreme Council for Planning and Development (SCPD) Khaled Mahdi touted Kuwait’s moves to materialize the 17 UN sustainable development goals (SDGs) of 2030. Kuwait has formed the permanent national steering committee to implement the 2030 SDGs agenda headed by the General Secretariat of the Supreme Planning Council, Mahdi said in a speech at the opening session of the Arab Forum for Sustainable Development (AFSD) in Beirut Tuesday.
He pointed out that steering committee was working in cooperation with the Central Administration of Statistics and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to achieve the goals. The committee had prepared lists of the 17 sustainable development goals and their indicators and distributed them to the ministers, he said. He added that the state development plan had been modified to cope with the UN SDGs agenda.
Mahdi unveiled that the several measures were taken to accelerate the Kuwait’s national development plan known as Kuwait 2035. A national observatory was formed by the General Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development to ensure that the state development plans were in line with the UN SDGs, he stated. Moreover, the government’s priorities for the coming 15th legislative term were set in accordance with SDGs, he said.
The three-day annual Arab Forum for Sustainable Development (AFSD) is organized by the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). This year’s meeting would focus on “Natural Resources, Future Generations, and the Common Good.” The event brings together over 250 representatives from government, civil society, the private sector, international and regional organizations, and youth in a space dedicated to fostering a culture of knowledge exchange and a spirit of collaboration and dialogue.
The AFSD is the primary regional mechanism for the follow up and review of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the Arab region. This regional Forum is also relevant at the global level; its outcome gives voice to the region at the High-level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development
