Salary Increases Are Called For By Employees' Unions

27 December 2022 Kuwait

Dr. Khaled Al-Barrak, the Vice President of the National Union of Employees and head of the Workers Union at the Ministry of Higher Education, stressed the importance of the government fulfilling its responsibilities towards providing a decent life for citizens, especially for those employees whose monthly salaries are the sole source of income due to continuous price increases.

According to Al-Barrak, the Central Administration of Statistics reported that Kuwait's consumer price index rose by 6.74% in November 2022 compared to November 2021, and other commodities rose at lower rates.

The government should monitor prices, limit continuous price hikes, and adjust the salary scale in line with these large price hikes that began several years ago, saying the salary scale has remained static despite the price increases.
