Road Laboratories Dept’ From Part To Mpw Again
In a move that won the approval of many technical personnel, the Minister of Public Works and State Minister for Housing Affairs Dr. Rana Al-Faris decided to transfer the supervision of Road Laboratories Department from the Public Authority for Road and Transportation back to the Ministry of Public Works again, reports Al-Qabas daily. According to Al-Faris’ decision, laboratory management was included in the transfer of the Government Center for Inspection and Quality Control in its new building located in Sabhan.
This was done in the past few days, as the entire administration was transferred from the old headquarters in Kaifan area to the new site in Sabhan. Informed sources explained that the decision is expected to launch the development of the Road Laboratories Department. It has five laboratories, one of which is for asphalt, the second is to assess paving, and the third is the Road Materials Laboratory.
The past days witnessed the launch of the Arab Center Laboratory’s training of the technical personnel of road laboratories and the transfer of expertise to them, in implementation of the terms of the agreement signed with the Arab laboratory.
Technician
training The COVID-19 circumstances required the separation of the trained technicians into groups. Each group comprises five individuals for the sole purpose of obtaining the scheduled training both in practical and theory. The same course is then organized for another group.
Regarding the expected development process, the sources expressed their hope that the two steps of the dependency transfer and training courses would be followed by providing the road laboratories with the equipment and devices they need, as well as employing sufficient number of technicians, as the administration still desperately needs a lot of national expertise related to asphalt laying works.
It is worth mentioning that the administration was joined to the PART based on Resolution No. 37/2020, which at that time organized the transfer of a number of departments affiliated to the Ministry of Public Works to the nascent authority. In this regard, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Public Works Engineer Ismail Al-Failakawi highlighted the importance of improving the quality of services provided through contracts affiliated with the ministry’s sectors.
