Protests By Airport Security Staff Demand Rights
The Kuwait International Airport Security Department employees stopped working for an hour in protest against the decision to change the shift system from three working days and two days off to six working days and two days off, according to sources quoted by Al- Jarida daily. Sources disclosed that the decision was taken after the employees demanded recognition of their rights when Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and acting Minister of Interior Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled approved the shift allowance for airport security inspectors.
According to sources, the protest was meant to convey to the interior minister that the nature of their work has changed without any official statement or instruction from the Civil Service Commission.
The department took action based on a verbal decision, according to sources. Meanwhile, Kuwait Airways cabin crew exhibited their admirable professionalism and expertise in dealing with emergency situations for the second time this month, reports Al-Qabas daily.
A Kuwait Airways crew helped a pregnant woman give birth on board the aircraft (flight KU117) bound for New York City, United States of America on Sunday. Kuwait Airways Corporation (KAC) regularly conducts integrated training programs for its employees so that they are always prepared to handle emergency situations.
