Proposal For Shops To Close At Midnight In Private Buildings

07 September 2022 Kuwait

It was stressed by Kuwait Municipality's senior management that Resolution 215 of 2009, which stipulates that shops located in private residences must operate until 12:00 midnight maximum, with several exceptions, including the central markets and pharmacies, provided prior approval is obtained from the Interior Ministry.

An Arab daily reports the administration received several complaints, but the matter is outside its jurisdiction, since the cabinet assigned this responsibility to the MoI in 2007, and the MoI had previously acknowledged it. According to one of the proposals, the MoI has approved online commercial activities without requiring physical customer transactions.

As quoted in the paper, the implementation of the decision is aimed at protecting young people from any negative effects, as well as achieving security in private housing areas.
