Municipality Committed To Replacing Expats With Kuwaiti Citizens

14 November 2018 Kuwait

The resigned Minister of Public Works and State Minister for Municipal Affairs Hussam Al- Roumi asked Head of Civil Service Commission (CSC) Ahmed Al-Jasser to provide 36 job grades under wage system in the Municipal Council, reports Al-Rai daily.

CSC rejected the request of Al-Roumi, considering the fact that CSC is working on implementing Kuwaitization policy on all the positions in the public sector for replacing expatriates with Kuwaiti employees.

The letter sent by Al-Roumi highlighted vacancies for eight consultants (two for media, two for financial affairs, two for engineering and two for legal affairs), 12 secretaries for the members of Municipal Council, ten typists, two photographers and four audiovisual technicians.

According to a source from CSC, the request was rejected because the CSC is against the appointment of expatriates in the public sector when there are citizens who meet the conditions and are ready to take up these positions.

Meanwhile, Director General of Kuwait Municipality Ahmed Al-Manfouhi has decided to suspend the appointment of expatriate consultants. He indicated that the number of expatriate consultants at present is very less, and they have been transferring their knowledge and experiences to the Kuwaiti employees. Al-Manfouhi stressed that Kuwait Municipality is committed to the policy of replacing expatriate employees with Kuwaiti citizens.
