Monkeypox Won't Become A Pandemic, But Be Cautious

22 May 2022 Kuwait

Kuwait's Ministry of Health has warned no cases of the monkeypox virus have been detected in Kuwait and is monitoring developments closely.

Over 100 cases have been reported in various parts of Europe, many thought to be related to homosexuality, reports a local Arabic newspaper.

In the health report, it states that "the monkey pox vaccine is one of the most important vaccinations in the country." Scientific studies confirm the vaccine's efficacy in preventing monkey pox at 85 percent.

According to the same sources, the specialists claim that, unlike Corona virus, monkey pox has a visible rash, which makes it easy to identify contacts and isolate them, and the current smallpox vaccine can help protect against it in the future, so no scientists expect the infection to become a pandemic, since it is not spread as easily as Corona virus.

Dr. Martin Hirsch of Massachusetts General Hospital noted that the disease is very contagious, spread through the respiratory system. It appears monkeypox is not very contagious.

Monkeypox is a rare disease found mostly in tropical forests in western and central Africa that is associated with heavy rains, but several countries in the world have now reported cases, especially because its symptoms include rashes on the hands and face, fever, and enlarged lymph glands.

In addition to Canada, the United States, Spain, the United Kingdom, Portugal, Australia, Italy, Sweden, Belgium, and Israel, the list of countries reporting cases of the disease includes those below.

A number of European countries who have reported cases of the disease have been working closely with WHO to combat the situation.

Monkeypox: 5 things you need to know

1 – An uncommon virus of zoonotic origin, associated with smallpox

2 – Since 1970, eleven African countries have reported cases of infections, and Nigeria has experienced a large outbreak since 2017

3 – Human infections have similar symptoms to smallpox patients in the past

4 – Animals in Africa carry the disease, and things used by infected people, such as blisters, skin lesions, and breath droplets, can transmit it to humans through their body fluids, clothing, towels, or bed sheets, or by having sex with a person carrying the virus.

5 – It is not known whether the virus spreads in the air, but experts believe it is spread if the patient is very close to the person's face.

A list of three signs and symptoms

1 - An incubation period of monkeypox is between 6 to 16 days, depending on the stage of infection and the time it takes for symptoms to appear.

2 – Lymph nodes swell and fever occurs.

3 – It has no specific vaccine, and its diagnosis is only conclusive through laboratory testing.

Here are six ways to prevent

1 – Restricting or prohibiting the trade and transfer of mammals from countries affected by the disease

2 – Avoiding physical contact with infected persons

3 – Wearing protective equipment and gloves while caring for patients

4 – Regularly washing hands after dealing with patients or visiting them

5 – All animal products should be cooked well

6 – Isolation of patients infected with the disease

It is reported that people who have been infected usually recover within a few weeks. Children and those with weakened immune systems are at greater risk of contracting smallpox.

It was proven in the past that vaccination against smallpox would prevent monkeypox to a degree of 85 percent, however, there are now drugs and vaccines that are more effective.

A large batch of chickenpox vaccines have been purchased by the government to prevent the spread of the disease.

Authorities in Britain have vaccinated health care workers with smallpox vaccine as well as other people at risk of infection.

In both the United Kingdom and Europe, the British Health Security Agency revealed that homosexuals and bisexuals are more prone to get sick, while the Directorate of Public Health of the regional government of Madrid revealed that homosexuals are more likely to go to sauna baths.

The World Health Organization said that an additional 50 suspected cases of monkeypox are being investigated. At least 80 cases of monkeypox have been confirmed in at least 12 countries.
