Moi Launched Smart Driving License Project
The Interior Ministry launched Tuesday the smart driving license project, through which licenses will be issued (renewed) in selfservice kiosks and stalls to be installed in different locations for citizens to save time and effort and exempt them from the requirement to personally appear in the concerned departments to process driving license related transactions.
In a press statement, the ministry affirmed the project is part of a comprehensive and long-term national strategy for the Traffic Sector and it will be ready for public use within the coming months. The General Traffic Department (GTD), in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development, will execute the project.
Efforts
In his speech during the launching ceremony, acting Director General of GTD Colonel Nasser Al-Subaie praised the efforts exerted by the team in charge of the project, as well as the partnership between the ministry, UNDP and Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development in implementing this strategic national project.
The project’s goals include saving time and effort for citizens, exempting them from the requirement to personally appear in the concerned department to renew their driving licenses. Through this project, they will be able to renew their driving licenses in kiosks and stalls that will be established in various areas, as well as their through their smart phones and the internet.
It is expected that employees will be more productive once the project is completed and reduce time for completing driving license related transactions in line with international confidentiality and quality standards in issuing licenses. A total of 15 self-service kiosks will be established for the issuance, renewal, replacement of damaged and lost driving licenses. A new type of smart cards for driving licenses with high level security in accordance with international standards will be imported. A team of experts and specialists in various technical aspects will supervise implementation of the project, in addition to training employees involved in the project on using smart devices.
