Kuwait’s Signing Of Co-op Deal With Egypt Comes Under Attack
The cooperation agreement signed yesterday by the General Authority for Anti- Corruption (Integrity or Nazaha) with the Egyptian Administrative Supervision Authority has been widely criticized and attacked by the parliamentarians, politicians and ordinary Kuwaitis, reports Al-Qabas daily.
Well-informed sources told the daily that the agreement is ‘protocol’ and not as some people have understood that it is for the appointment of new advisers.
The sources said what is being published in the social media that Nazaha will hire consultants from Egypt following the signing of the agreement holds no water.
The sources explained that the agreement is about exchange of experiences and expertise and comes within the usual protocols signed between the authority and friendly countries on anticorruption.
The sources pointed out the agreement enables Nazaha to obtain information and reports that will support investigations related to people, cases and files under investigation through cooperation with the administrative body in Egypt.
The sources added the agreement emphasizes the efforts exerted by Nazaha in pursuing its goals in line with the requirements for the implementation of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption.
The sources pointed out that Kuwait is required to sign cooperation protocols with a member of countries in line with Chapter Four of the agreement, pointing out that the protocols of the United Nations Convention signed by member states include extradition, transfer of the convicts, mutual legal assistance, transfer of criminal procedures, cooperation in law enforcement, joint investigations of cases that require this, and activation of special investigative methods.
The sources concluded saying that cooperation between countries is consistent with the internal law of the state, as the agreement signed by Nazaha was preceded by another such signing with France.
