Kuwait Reached 29,645 Cancer Patients - Statistics
Ministry of Health says the average number of cancer patients in Kuwait matches the rates specified in the reports of the International Agency for Research on Cancer in Leon City, France affiliated to the World Health Organization (WHO), reports Annahar daily.
In a press statement, the ministry explained that the statistics circulating on social media about the number of cancer patients covers more than ten years and includes Kuwaiti citizens and residents of both genders.
The statistics does not refer to the new cases in any particular year. It affirmed that the protection of citizens and residents from diseases is the ministry’s top priority based on the developmental strategy adopted by the state.
Meanwhile, statistics released by the Ministry of Health revealed that the number of cancer cases in the country reached 29,645 within a period of 12 years – from 2006 to 2018; and 14,313 of these cases are Kuwaitis while 15,332 are non-Kuwaitis, reports Al- Rai daily.
In response to the query of MP Muhammad Hayef, Health Minister Sheikh Bassel Al-Sabah disclosed that the Kuwaiti cancer patients include 6,060 men and 8,253 women while the non- Kuwaitis include 7,861 men and 7,471 women. Sheikh Bassel affirmed that besides treatment, one of the most important objectives of the ministry through its Kuwait Cancer Control Center (KCCC) is raising public awareness on cancer; especially the types that spread fast – breast, womb, colon and blood among women; and prostate, colon and lungs among men.
“The ministry is conducting awareness campaigns, studies and research on the disease. The awareness campaigns include warnings about consuming food and products containing unhealthy calories which could be harmful to one’s health, and avoiding unhealthy eating habits,” he explained
