Kuwait-france Strategic Talks Aim To Boost Multilateral Ties
A Kuwaiti official said the strategic dialogue with France, which was held at the Foreign Ministry’s building in Paris Monday, aimed at further boosting cooperation in many domains.
Waleed Al-Khubaizi, Assistant Foreign Minister for Europe, said the 2nd Kuwait-France Strategic Dialogue was important to cementing political, economic, military and cultural cooperation. Speaking to KUNA, Al- Khubaizi said the dialogue was an excellent tool to explore investment opportunities and to attract French companies willing to contribute to New Kuwait 2035 Vision.
The two sides, he said, also discussed cooperation and coordination over a host of issues of mutual interest specially during Kuwait’s non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council. Kuwait’s Ambassador in Paris Sami Al-Sulaiman told KUNA the two sides discussed economic, scientific, cultural and health cooperation. He said they discussed amending an agreement on prevention of dual taxation, a civil aviation protocol, extending an agreement on training of Kuwaiti doctors, investment, training of Kuwaiti officers and academic certification of Kuwaiti students.
Testament
In a testament to its vital role, the State of Kuwait has been chosen on Monday for the sixth time in five years to preside over the Near East and North Africa group at the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
The group, which gathers Arab countries inside FAO, including the Arab League, Palestine, Iran, and Afghanistan, chose Kuwait to lead the group during its first regular meeting of the year. Speaking to KUNA, Kuwait Permanent Representative at FAO Yousef Juhail said he began leading the group from the beginning of March as supervisor.
Juhail officially received leadership from Afghanistan Representative after election during their first meeting of 2019. Juhail noted that Sudan has been chosen as Deputy President of the group. The Kuwaiti representative expressed gratitude towards the trust given to his country, vowing that Kuwait will relay the voice of the group during participations in the organization’s various activities.
Juhail also vowed to exert all efforts to boost cooperation among countries of the region, and to emphasize the role of the group in forming FAO policies and guidance to best serve countries of the group. Last June, FAO council elected Kuwait to be Deputy President of FAO independent council, which includes 49 countries.
