Investigations Ongoing Against People, Firms Publishing Adverts Soliciting Donations
Advertisements published by individuals and companies for collecting donations are being scrutinized to uncover anyone found in violation of regulations regarding charitable work, Al-Jarida daily reported.
Charities and Foundations Department Director at the Ministry of Social Affairs Hoda Al-Rashed revealed that necessary measures have been taken against those with evidence against them of having committed violations. She added that the ministries of Social Affairs and Commerce are coordinating their efforts to tackle the issue of illegal collection of donations, by uncovering evidence against companies and punishing the guilty.
Highlighting that guilty individuals are referred to the concerned authorities, she pointed out that these measures were “to ensure the appropriate use of donated funds and cutting the entry of fake entities into charitable work who distort its image and ignore its goals. We are currently launching an awareness plan for citizens and expats, through which we urge them to donate only to officially recognized charitable organizations.”
While confirming the ministry’s keenness to deliver donations only to deserving people and monitor unauthorized calls for donations, Al-Rashed noted the cases of needy people are referred to official charitable organizations that study their situation and provide them with assistance, and to that effect, the ministry is fully cooperating with the charitable organizations in this regard.
