Indian Embassy Unveils Mahatma Gandhi’s Portrait During Martyrs’ Day Celebration

Indian embassy organized ‘Remembering Mahatma Gandhi’ on Martyrs’ Day Sunday, January 30, 2021.

Every year on 30 January, India celebrates Martyrs’ Day. The day has been chosen to honor brave martyrs of India, as on January 30, 1948, Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the Indian nation, attained martyrdom.

On the occasion, the Indian Ambassador Sibi George unveiled a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi painted by renowned Kuwaiti artist, Mr. Mahmoud Al-Qattan.

The Ambassador of India paid floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, “Gandhiji’s laid a lot of emphasis on self-reliant, self-sufficient villages. This idea has special relevance today, as India has now charted on a vision of building a self-reliant nation (Aatmanirbhar Bharat) and turning Gandhiji’s dreams into reality.” Ambassador George said.

During the event, the Ambassador of India thanked His Highness Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Amir of the State of Kuwait, and His Highness Sheikh Mishaal Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Crown Prince of the State of Kuwait, for hosting the Indian community in Kuwait.

The event was attended by the president of Kuwait’s Art Association, Mr. Abdul Rasoul Salman, and several Kuwaiti artists and well-wishers. The India ambassador also recalled the warm welcome extended by the President of the Kuwait Arts Association during his visit to the gallery.

Towards the end of the evening, the ambassador thanked everyone present for the overwhelming participation.
