India: Taj Mahal Mausoleum Reopens Its Doors To Visitors Today

21 September 2020 India

The Taj Mahal mausoleum reopens its doors to visitors today, Monday, in a symbolic step that indicates the return of life and business to its previous status in India, which is around the corner or below, surpassing the United States in recording the highest number of Coronavirus infections in the world.

The marble mausoleum in the city of Agra in southern New Delhi, which is one of the most famous tourist attractions in the world, attracts about seven million visitors annually, but it has been closed since March.
Officials confirm that after its reopening, strict social distancing rules will be imposed in addition to limiting the daily number of visitors so that it does not exceed five thousand people, which is a quarter of the normal rate, and tickets can only be purchased to enter via the Internet.
“Marks will be placed in circles, the mask will be compulsory and no one will be able to enter without a thermal examination,” the archaeologist Vasant Swarnkar, in charge of the Agra antiquities, told reporters.
