Gap Between 2 Doses Of Pfizer Vaccine Increased To Six Weeks
The sixteenth Pfizer vaccine shipment is expected to arrive in Kuwait on Sunday, 9 May. The shipment is part of a deal inked between health ministry and the company where doses are supplied on a weekly basis.
As Kuwait is dealing with vaccine shortages, and crowding in vaccination centers, the arrival of the doses would help to ensure Kuwait’s vaccination campaign reaches its target of inoculating two million by end-June.
Moreover, following the decision by the Cabinet of Ministers to prevent all Kuwaitis, and their first degree relatives and domestic workers accompanying them from travelling out of Kuwait unless they are vaccinated from May 22, the crowds at vaccination centers have increased. Vaccinations are proving appealing as Kuwait is set to lift some restrictions on those who are vaccinated.
To reduce crowding at the Mishref Fairground as it is the only vaccination center administering the Pfizer vaccine, Kuwait will be equipping five new vaccination centers to administer the Pfizer vaccine.
In related news, due to shortages and delays in receiving the vaccines as there is high global demand for acquiring vaccine quantities, the Ministry of Health decided to extend the interval between the two doses of vaccines.
The gap between two doses of the Pfizer vaccine will be increased to six weeks but the interval will remain 3 weeks for those above 60 years, and those suffering from chronic diseases. In a press statement, the ministry said this decision will apply to everyone who received the first dose of the Pfizer/Biotech vaccine on or after Monday, May 3, 2021.
