The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) announced that the remains of the three overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who died in a fire in the Mangaf area will be brought back to the Philippines next week. The repatriation process for these victims, who lost their lives in a tragic building fire in Kuwait, has already commenced.
The deceased OFWs were identified as Jesus Oliveros Lopez, Edwin Petras Petilla, and Jeffrey Fabrigas Catubay. The survivors, who were on duty during the fire, include Mario Abrenica, Jimmy Cancino, Noriel Badion, Ralph Aguero, and Raymond Gahol. Additionally, five out of the eleven Filipinos working in the building were confirmed safe, with two others, Michael Dizon and Julio Montemayor, currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and one, Mario Bruce, already discharged.
The victims, employed by the same Kuwaiti construction company NBTC, housed in the affected building, succumbed to smoke inhalation when they became trapped during the blaze. According to Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac of the Department of Migrant Workers, two other OFWs remain in critical condition in hospital, while six others escaped unharmed.
