Egypt: Five Schoolgirls Sexually Harassed By A Teacher

Five schoolgirls were sexually harassed by an Egyptian teacher in the Giza Governorate, Egyptian media reported.

Giza police swung into action following complaints from students' families and arrested the teacher within a record timeframe after conducting a thorough investigation.

During interrogation, the teacher admitted molesting his students and claimed that he was 'mentally ill'. The teacher is being prosecuted by the public prosecution.

If you insinuate sexually via gesture, word, or action, or by any means, including through online means, you are punishable with six months imprisonment, a fine of not less than 3,000 pounds, and not more than 5,000 pounds, or even both of these.

If the offender repeats the offence by stalking or tracking the victim for more than a year and if he or she carries a weapon, the penalty shall include imprisonment for a period of no less than two years and a fine of no less than 5,000 pounds and not more than 10,000 pounds. There is a maximum period of five years and there is a maximum fine of not less than 20,000 pounds and not more than fifty thousand pounds.

According to a U.N. survey, most women in the country have been harassed in some form, ranging from catcalling to groping and pinching.
