Court Acquitted Man In Drugs Case

11 October 2017 Crime News

The Court of Appeals overturned the verdict issued by another appellate court, which sentenced an individual in absentia to four-year imprisonment with hard labor for possession of hashish and other brain stimulants with consumption intent. The court instead acquitted the defendant. According to the account of officers from Sulaibiya Police Station, the suspect was arrested after receiving report that he hit someone. At the time of arrest, the officer noticed the disoriented state of the suspect and asked him if he consumed drugs. The suspect confessed to have consumed methamphetamine. The lab report revealed that sample was found to contain hashish and methamphetamine. The defense counsel lawyer Ali Al-Wawan said the arrest procedures followed by the police to arrest his client were faulty due to lack of a search-and-arrest warrant from the Public Prosecution, adding that his client was not under any suspicion prior to his arrest.
