Coast Guard Deploys Speedboats In Kuwait Bay To Prevent Random Fishing In The Area

23 December 2019 Kuwait

The General Department of the Coast Guard is in the process of deploying speedboats periodically in the Kuwait Bay area to put an end to random fishing operations by wooden boats in clear violation of the decision to prevent fishing in the area, reports Al-Anba daily.

The decision came after the circulation of video clips showing several suspicious dhows in the area which the authorities call a blatant transgression. The Environment Public Authority (EPA) then notified the General Administration of the Coast Guard with a request to keep a tap on the pay to prevent “shrouded” activities.

Following this, the Deputy Director-General for Technical Affairs Sector at the EPA, Abdullah Al-Zaidan, confirmed the Authority has received a notification in this regard and coordination is underway with the concerned authorities to take the necessary measures in the event of a violation.

He stressed the EPA Law 24 of 2014, Article 108 stipulates: “It is prohibited to engage in any environmentally harmful activity in Kuwait Bay citing it as a region of a special nature,” whereby fishing was prohibited in 2015 based on the decision of the Public Authority for Agriculture and Fisheries.

On the other hand, he appealed to the citizens to report any environmental violations including to the EPA hotline 157 or the official social communication services of the Environment Public Authority.
