Asian Gang Caught Selling Parking Spaces For Kd 2 In Shopping Malls
An innovative ‘exploitative’ idea emerged in the minds of ten Asian workers to take advantage of the crowded parking lot of a commercial complex in Al-Rai area, occupy the largest number of parking spaces with their vehicles, hunt down those looking for a parking space, and bargain with each of them to pay KD 2 or more for the parking space where the worker parked his car, reports Al-Qabas daily.
The business of these violators grew to such an extent that they were able to collect more than KD 200 per day. After receiving information about what is happening, the complex administration submitted a report to the joint committee headed by the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) at the end of last week, and stated that these “exploiters” are a group of workers in violation of the labor law.
A team of inspectors from PAM, under the supervision of the sector’s Assistant Undersecretary Dr. Mubarak Al-Azmi, and a group of residency investigation officers surrounded the workers in the places where they had parked their vehicles. They were then apprehended and their cars were seized. Procedures have been launched for referring them to the deportation center.
Informed
According to informed sources, the workers used to bring cars and reserve approximately ten parking spaces inside the parking lot. When they see a visitor to the complex looking for a parking spot, they offer him their parking spot in exchange for KD 2 which they receive in advance.
They then move to another empty parking spot, and the process continues to such an extent that the proceeds of one worker daily is about KD 20. The sources revealed that the residency investigation officers transferred the ten workers to the administration and completed investigations with them to clarify who employed them and how they obtained residency permits, in preparation for summoning their sponsors.
They said the PAM inspectors have written reports for summoning sponsors and opening investigations with them due to the suspicion of residency trade.
In addition, the sources affirmed that the joint committee has started intensive field campaigns against workers who are in violation of the labor and residency laws, starting with the delivery workers and marginal workers. They said the committee is also targeting violators of unlicensed commercial activities in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh and Mahboula areas. The sources stated that the past days witnessed the committee seizing more than 50 violating workers from several locations through a series of campaigns aimed at controlling the phenomena of random labor market and marginal labor. They affirmed that strict measures will be taken against sponsors in the event that a suspicion of residency trade is proven.
