All Names On Naturalization List Are Deserving
Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Lieutenant General Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah has affirmed that all names on the naturalization list are deserving as they met all the terms and conditions stipulated in the Citizenship Law, adding there have been no cases of naturalization fraud over the past five years.
He said the honorable services naturalization slots are reserved for those proven to have exerted noteworthy efforts and provided significant services for the country in areas such as education, management and finance.
He disclosed the number of individuals naturalized through the honorable services article in the past five years totaled 13, while the number of applications under this article reached 3,854.
In response to parliamentary queries on the 30,000 citizenship applications submitted to the High Committee for Naturalization, the minister clarified these individuals are included in the 1965 Census but it does not mean they automatically deserve the Kuwaiti citizenship as they still need to fulfill the terms and conditions stipulated in the law.
He pointed out these individuals should not have been subjected to any legal procedure that tarnishes their honor and integrity, they must have a history of good conduct without security and legal restrictions, and they should undergo DNA testing.
In another development, MP Ahmed Al-Fadhel voiced objection to the recent decision of the governmental committee tasked to assess damages caused by the flood crisis.
He asserted the government should not allow companies proven to have violated the provisions of their contracts, which caused the floods, to rectify their mistakes without being subjected to legal action. He pointed out the Ministry of Public Works had earlier presented to the Parliament a plan to rectify errors that caused the floods by re-evaluating and revising policies.
The governmental investigative committee has unveiled the names of erring companies, while the State Audit Bureau released its report on the accountability of each company; followed by the Anti-Corruption Public Authority’s declaration that all those responsible must be referred to the Public Prosecution, he narrated.
The MP went on to say that the erring companies submitted appeals to the governmental committee, which allowed them to correct their mistakes; thereby, avoid legal repercussions. “This decision out rightly disregards the reports of concerned bodies. It is unfair for companies which were subjected to legal action for less serious violations,” he added.
Fortunately, the Central Agency for Public Tenders rejected this decision and the MP praised this move; while calling on the Fatwa and Legislation Department to address the issue and its legal ramifications, urging the department to issue a statement on this matter
