Action On Expat Rentals

14 March 2021 Expats

MP Osama Al- Shaheen submitted a proposal for Kuwait Municipality to take legal action against citizens who rented their houses to expatriate bachelors in Dasma and other residential areas. According to the lawmaker, he received several complaints from citizens residing in Dasma about the increasing number of expatriate bachelors and laborers in the area. He pointed out that renting private houses to bachelors contravenes Law No. 125/1992 which stipulates the renting of houses in residential areas should be for families only.

On the other hand, MP Ahmed Al-Hamad called on the government to prepare an economic catalyst for addressing the negative consequences of coronavirus. He said most countries around the world have taken such action, citing as an example the United States of America which allocated almost $2 trillion for this purpose while the Kuwaiti government has offered nothing so far.

Meanwhile, MP Muhannad Al-Sayer said that despite the importance of the general amnesty issue; it is not the only matter demanding attention. He pointed out the MPs have submitted more than 450 bills and proposals, which means there are many important issues besides general amnesty. The lawmaker added that defending the former MPs and citizens who were convicted in political opinion cases is part of the principles aimed at achieving national reconciliation, indicating this is an urgent step for the country to overcome the political crisis. Also, MP Muhammad Al-Mutair disclosed many countries collapsed when the judiciary got involved in politics and dragged it into political disputes. He warned the executive authority against putting the judiciary in such a dark tunnel as it will demolish the most prominent pillar of the nation. He asserted: “Do not play with fire.”
