9-day Holiday … Travel Demand Up; London, Saudi Top On List
The declaration of the nine-day holiday on the occasion of the National and Liberation Days increased demand for travel among citizens and expatriates who started planning to spend their vacation outside the country — to various destinations like Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Sharm El-Sheikh, Dubai, London, Maldives, Luxor and Aswan, reports Al-Anba daily quoting sources from the tourism and travel sector. Sources disclosed that the number of reservations increased remarkably as soon as the nine-day holiday was announced. They expect trips to be fully booked, such that reservations will return to pre-corona levels.
They described this as “post-Corona awakening,” indicating that travel packages start from KD100 dinars for nearby destinations including the performance of Umrah for three days. Sources attributed the increase in demand for travel to the fact that the nine-day holiday announcement coincided with the easing of precautionary health measures upon return to Kuwait; particularly the end of quarantine once the negative PCR test result is out — one of the factors that encouraged peopled to travel. Board Member and Media Committee Chairman at Kuwait Travel and Tourism Agencies Association (KTTAA) Hussein Al-Sulaiten pointed out that the nine-day holiday announcement prompted citizens and expatriates to make their travel plans for a quick vacation in order to change their routine.
He affirmed this reflected positively on the travel sector, which began to witness an increased demand as soon as the holiday was announced. He revealed the most preferred destination among citizens is London; followed by Turkey, particularly Istanbul, Bursa and Trabzon. He also cited nearby destinations such as Saudi Arabia for performing Umrah or participating in festivals and celebrations, Dubai that offers good tourist destinations and an opportunity for shopping, and Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt which boasts of the best recreational facilities.
