World Health: The World Records A Record Number Of "corona" Infections Within A Week

22 September 2020 Coronavirus

Statistics issued by the World Health Organization revealed that the spread of the “Covid-19” epidemic is accelerating in the world, as a record number of declared infections were recorded during seven days last week, amounting to about two million, and that the number of deaths decreased.

And the World Health Organization announced, in updated data published late Monday, that one million and 998 thousand and 897 new cases of new corona were recorded around the world in the week that ended on September 20.

The international body stated that this represents an increase of 6% from the previous week and “the highest number of infections recorded within one week since the beginning of the epidemic.”

Since it first appeared in China late last year, the virus has infected more than 31 million people around the world and killed about 962,000, according to a toll prepared by AFP based on official sources on Monday.

The World Health Organization stated that almost all regions of the world witnessed an increase in the number of injuries last week, while the number of injuries in Europe and the Americas increased by 11 and 10%, respectively.

Africa, which remained relatively least affected by the epidemic, was the only exception, as it recorded a 12% decrease in the number of new infections compared to the previous week.

The organization’s statistics showed that the number of new deaths is decreasing despite the high number of injuries in most parts of the world.

And last week, about 37,000 new deaths were recorded around the world related to the virus, equivalent to a 10% decrease compared to the previous week.

The Americas were at the forefront of the regions in which deaths decreased, registering a 22% decrease from the previous week, while new deaths in Africa also decreased by 16%.

The Americas are still the region in which half of the total number of declared injuries and 55% of deaths recorded around the world, and the decline in the number of deaths in the region is due, especially to the decrease in deaths in Colombia, Mexico, Ecuador and Bolivia.

The United States, the country worst affected by the epidemic in the world along with Brazil, continued to record the highest number of deaths, as the two countries reported more than 5,000 new deaths during the past week.

In Europe, which some regions are recording a second wave of infections, the number of new deaths increased during a seven-day period of four thousand cases, an increase of 27% compared to the previous week.

France, Russia, Spain and Britain recorded the largest number of new infections in Europe.

Britain is still registering the largest cumulative number of deaths (about 42,000) on the continent since the start of the epidemic.
