There Is No Iqama For Some Expat Teachers In Kuwait

03 December 2023 Expats

Al-Anba daily reports that some administrators and teachers sponsored by the Ministry of Education (MoE) do not have valid residency permits, according to Acting Assistant Undersecretary Faisal Al-Jutaili. Al-Jutaili wrote the undersecretary of the ministry a letter stating: “We would like to inform you that we have received official communication from the Ministry of Interior stating that a group of employees (administrators and teachers) sponsored by the Ministry of Education do not have valid residency permits. A foreigner whose residence in the country is illegal is prohibited from harboring, housing, or employing under Decree 17/1959.

The Residency Law considers it a violation, as it obstructs the legal documentation process. Hence, I would like you to inform all assistant undersecretaries in the ministry about the need to ensure the validity of the residency and compliance with legal requirements. In the event that an expatriate employee violates the Residency Law, please coordinate with the Passports Section at HR to complete the legal procedures to resolve the issue."
