The Zoo Crisis Continues; Too Many Obstacles And A Slow Documentary Cycle Make Maintenance Impossible
The Omariya Zoo is still on the list of disabled recreational facilities in the country, despite the fact that it has been closed for two years under the pretext of maintenance, in a trend that reveals the slow mechanism for dealing with the maintenance of government facilities, particularly projects related to entertainment and tourism, and the park has become exposed to a longer closing period due to the slow documentary cycle.
According to a local Arabic daily, no maintenance procedures related to the park's facilities were completed during its closure (during the Corona pandemic), indicating that despite the regulatory authorities' approval of a company's donation to bear the full cost of the zoo's maintenance, the company did not officially receive the site and slow documentary cycle, which delays the opening of the zoo.
According to the sources, the Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources was unable to cover the costs of maintenance, so it assigned the task to one of the major companies to finance it as part of a community service project, as well as its inability to establish a new zoo project, so it scrapped the idea and kept the current one.
The majority of the animals are in their cages and receive full care under the supervision of a zoo crew, according to the sources, and the potential of importing new animals will be evaluated after maintenance, which has yet to be determined.
