No More Temporary Extensions For Expats Above 60+

23 February 2022 Expats

The Ministry of Interior's General Administration of Residency Affairs has banned providing residency to expatriates aged 60 and up with high school diplomas. These individuals must now renew their residency in accordance with the new amendment, which requires payment of a 250 dinar annual fee as well as health insurance issued by a company listed on the stock exchange with a value of 503.5 dinars.

Previously, the Residency Affairs department would grant extensions of residences ranging from 30 to 90 days to avoid fines for residency infractions, which cost two dinars per day.

Expatriates in this group now have two choices: renew their work permits in accordance with the new standards, or switch to a family visa if the qualifications are met.

According to the most recent figures, there were 62,948 residents working in the private sector in this category.
