The Quota On The Jobs. Not On Nationality; Committee's Report Ready

08 September 2020 Kuwait

Parliamentary Human Resources Development Committee's report regarding the demographics is almost ready and a gradual reduction in the number of arrivals of expats after covering some jobs from citizens, is more appropriate, in order to avoid the occurrence of confusion in the labour market, local Arabic media reported quoting sources.

According to the report, the committee suggested the application of the "quota" system in another way that does not consider the nationality, but rather the jobs. As per this, the number of expatriates who work in a particular job does not exceed 20 percent of the citizen. Every year the number will be reviewed to determine the country's needs.

The report also said that the draft law contains a provision of training centres to qualify Kuwaitis and the establishment of awareness programs to encourage Kuwaitis to work in some jobs.

The final report will be ready on Thursday, it added.
