Suffering Of Expats In Kuwait Hit With Coronavirus Increases
In addition to the health challenges they face and the pain they experience, COVID-19 victims are suffering more from the decision taken by the Ministry of Health to transfer them to a health center in Jaber Al-Ahmad City, instead of the Shuaiba health center that is more convenient and closer to their homes.
One of the biggest obstacles standing in the way of expatriates residing in Ahmadi Governorate who suffer from COVID-19 is the distance between Jaber Al-Ahmad City and their accomodations in Ahmadi area and the surrounding areas. They must visit the health center there to receive medical care or even the required instructions. Many of the infected people find it difficult to access the specialist doctor within a short time. They also face obstacles in their transfer from the health center in Jaber Al-Ahmad City to the Amiri Hospital due to the address of residence, or even their re-transfer to Adan Hospital.
According to informed sources from the Ministry of Health, instructions were issued in August to transfer expatriates infected with COVID-19 from the Shuaiba Center to a health center in Jaber Al-Ahmad City, reports Al-Qabas daily. The ministry had previously identified ten health centers at the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis to deal with the infected victims, including Musaed Al-Saleh Center for Kuwaiti citizens and Jaber Al-Ahmad Center for expatriates in the Capital health zone.
In Hawally health zone, it allocated Shuhada Center for Kuwaiti citizens and Jabriya Center for expatriates.
In Farwaniya health zone, Rehab Health Center was allocated for Kuwait citizens, and Riggae Health Center for expatriates.
Naeem Center was allocated for Kuwaiti citizens, and Naseem temporary center in Taima area for expatriates in Jahra health zone.
In Ahmadi health zone, Egaila health center and Shuaiba Industrial Area Center were allocated for citizens and expatriates respectively.
After instructions were issued to transfer expatriate victims from Shuaiba Center affiliated to Ahmadi health zone to the health center in Jaber Al-Ahmad City affiliated to the Capital health zone, it was observed that there are some obstacles and confusion facing the patients currently such as the distance between Jaber Al-Ahmad City and Ahmadi Governorate, and the difficulty in transferring cases to Amiri Hospital due to the difference in address and the non-subordination of the expatriate to the hospital, as well as the difficulty in transferring such patient to Adan Hospital as well.
The sources said the ministry is considering referring the affected patients to Egaila Health Center, and allocating one floor to treat Kuwaiti victims of COVID-19 and another for expatriates.
They highlighted the center’s ability to absorb these numbers, and eliminate the problems that these patients face these days or until they return to being received again at the Shuaiba Industrial Area Center.
The sources indicated that these solutions among others are currently under study, and will be decided upon soon so that the victims can obtain healthcare services in the most facilitated manner as soon as possible, in addition to the possibility of communicating with them within a short period of time.
