Strict Residency Violation Penalties For Expats Enforced
Starting in the second month, the daily penalty for a residency violation will double from two to four dinars. Expats who work for others in violation of residency requirements will be fined 3,000 dinars.
In the new residency law, to be discussed in the coming National Assembly session, expats who overstay without proper residency would be punished by a year in prison and a fine ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 dinars, or a combination of both.
Expats entering Kuwait for a visit are required to leave within three months unless they obtain a residence permit from the Ministry of Interior, as stipulated in Article 27.
Additionally, Article 31 specifies that violations of Article 6 are subject to a fee of 2 dinars per day for the first month and 4 dinars per day thereafter. To obtain a residence permit or a grace period to leave Kuwait, expat parents with newborns born in Kuwait must apply within four months of the birth date to the competent authority in the Ministry of Interior. The same penalty is levied on those breaching residency regulations.
Article 31 outlines a penalty of 3,000 dinars for expats in violation of their residency requirements who work for others.
