Shrimp Stocks Abundant And Pricing Reasonable
Director General of Fisheries Sector in the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR) Marzouq Al-Azmi affirmed that the production of shrimps this year has been abundant as evident from the low prices that can be afforded by all, reports Al-Rai daily. He said this during a press conference with Head of Kuwait Fishermen Federation Dhaher Al-Sawyyan.
Al-Azmi highlighted PAAAFR’s success in maintaining the country’s stock of fish and shrimps, as the fishing season will end in January, indicating that PAAAFR has banned fishing of mackerel from mid-August to Oct 15.
Commenting on Al-Sawyyan’s statements, he said the authority has banned back-trawling fishing in regional waters in order to preserve fish stock and protect the marine environment. He explained that marine control boats have been patrolling the regional waters around the clock with the cooperation of Coast Guard Department in order to arrest violators.
They seized five Kuwaiti boats with about 30 expatriate fishermen after they were caught trying to fish during dawn time in the regional waters 15 miles from east of Auhah Island. They were using the back-trawling method, which is in violation of the relevant law. The boats were seized, the owners fined and the expatriate fishermen will be deported
