Senior Officials Inspect Mosque Protection Operation
Acting Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Public Security Affairs Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim Al-Tarrah made an inspection tour of mosques Friday night to verify the preparedness of security personnel tasked with protecting the safety of worshippers during the last ten days of the holy month of Ramadan.
He was accompanied by Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Dr. Walid Al-Shu'aib, according to a statement by the Interior Ministry's Security Media Department.
The two senior officials met with heads of police patrols and voluntary teams, males and females, to make sure of the sound implementation of the Interior Ministry's plan to protect the places of worship.
Maj.-Gen. Al-Tarrah stressed the need of close coordination among the security sectors and between his ministry and the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs to maintain the rule of law countrywide.
He affirmed the Ministry's resolve to combat the phenomenon of panhandling near mosques and at shopping malls, saying that any panhandler will face interrogation and extradition. He also called on worshippers to cooperate with the security personnel and voluntary teams to ensure orderly and spiritual atmospheres at the mosques.Â
