Salary Cap May Increase For Visit Visas
Following the abrupt decision to stop issuing these visas Monday, the Residency Affairs Sector will present next week a new mechanism for organizing the issuance of family and tourist visit visas.
According to the daily, the residence affairs sector is considering raising the minimum salary to 300 dinars for expat spouses and children and to 600 dinars minimum if the spouse wants to bring his parents. According to sources, the new mechanism will grant broad powers to directors of residency affairs departments in the six governorates to ease the pressure on the General Administration of Residency Affairs in the Dajeej area, where the amount of visitors jumped from about 100 per day to about a thousand per day during the past period of the withdrawal of the director's powers.
In an interview with IHS, Al-Nawaf stated that the decision to ban family and tourist visits arose in response to complaints that the work mechanism to grant visas for family and tourist visits to expatriates had not been arranged.
Nonetheless, the proposal for a salary cap in order to issue visit visas can be increased or decreased according to the Ministry's decision." However, the Al-Rai daily quoting informed sources said the Minister decided to stop tourist and family visas because people who entered the country during the past months have not left, raising the number of violators by about 20,000.
A new mechanism known as 'development of work' will be prepared until further notice by the Ministry of Interior; however, sources stated that this decision is not applicable to electronic visas granted at the airport directly to some nationalities.
It is estimated that about 70,000 expatriates will enter the country on tourist and family visas in 2022, noting that steps are being taken to establish a mechanism and controls that will guarantee the visitor's departure upon the expiration of their visa, as well as preventing the extension of their stay, which is for 3 months.
