Quadrantid Meteor Showers And Perihelion To Grace Kuwait's Skies In January

02 January 2024 Kuwait

The Al-Ajiri Scientific Center has announced the arrival of two captivating astronomical events in January, with the Quadrantid meteor showers set to adorn the Kuwaiti sky for two days, starting this Wednesday. Following this celestial display, Kuwait will witness the phenomenon of perihelion on Thursday.

According to the center's statement on Tuesday, the Quadrantid meteors will reach their peak tomorrow night, radiating after midnight and continuing into the early hours before sunrise on January 4th. Anticipated to produce around 120 meteors per hour, this meteor shower can be observed with the naked eye in open and dark locations during the night.

Highlighting the subsequent astronomical wonder, the center notes that on Thursday, Kuwait will experience perihelion, coinciding with the commencement of the new Gregorian year. During perihelion, Earth is at its closest point to the sun, causing the sun's disk to appear slightly larger and brighter than usual.
