Property Owners In Jleeb Al-shyoukh Claim Discrimination
The government's prejudice and neglect of the Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh region have resulted in decaying structures, broken infrastructure, and substandard public services, according to real estate and individual house owners in the area. The area's neglect has resulted in social, economic, and security issues that are worsening by the day.
The owners sought that the area is assessed and seized by the government for distribution as land to residents for private housing, citing particular stipulations in the ownership statute that restrict them from selling their houses for 15 years. Another idea was to develop the area as a commercial or investment property. They warned that if their repeated appeals to the government are ignored, they will have no choice but to resort to legal action, threatening to go to court to force the sale of their properties, which they have been unable to sell for the past 15 years.
One of the locals, Dr. Muhammad Al-Haras, stated that two things are not sold in Kuwait, namely the properties of Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh and the cemeteries, due to administrative confusion in not finding a solution to a place entitled Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, which was founded in 1965. He stated that denying over 1,600 people the right to sell their own homes is a breach of both the law and humanitarian ideals.
About 400,000 expatriates, singles, and workers live in the area, and the government should consider finding housing for them before removing them. This is contrary to humanitarian considerations, and it demonstrates that the government lacks a clear vision in determining the time and how it will be resolved.
Rashid Al-Mutairi, another local resident, believes the location is perfect and strategically positioned, and that the government should take advantage of this by transforming it into a commercial, entertainment, and tourist destination.
