October Is The Critical Month For Corona

20 September 2020 Coronavirus

More than 6 months after the start of the battle against the spread of the Coronavirus around the world, government measures that included closure, stopping various commercial and social activities, suspending air traffic, and imposing exceptional measures failed to curb the virus that caused more than 30 million and about 950,000 deaths around the world to date.

Our lives have changed and we have given up habits and things that we never imagined that we could move away from them … no travel, no tourism, no parties, or cinemas … football matches without fans … losses and economic stagnation that the world has not seen since World War II, but despite From the size of the damage, hopes remain in light of the promises made by governments and global pharmaceutical companies regarding the preparation of vaccines against the virus, starting next month.

Days before the month of October, which will witness the start of launching and distributing vaccines, especially in the United States, and ahead of November, which will witness the US presidential elections, the moment has come to settle and hold governments, global research centers and vaccine development companies to account that have made promises to provide effective and safe vaccines with the aim of stopping the spread of the virus that caused panic and terror In the world.

‘Killer October‘

Fears of residents around the world have escalated over the coming of October, which the World Health Organization described earlier as a “killer October”, as the organization warned that the vaccine would not end the Corona pandemic and that Europe would witness a rise in the numbers of daily infections and deaths.

The director of the World Health Organization in Europe, Hans Kluge, said that it is not known if there is a possible vaccine that will help all age groups.

He added: “I hear all the time that the vaccine will be the end of the epidemic .. Of course not! We do not even know if this vaccine will help all population groups and all cases ».

Increase in infection rates

In conjunction with the World Health Organization warnings, infection rates are escalating in European countries, especially in France, where the authorities announced new records after reporting more than 13,000 infections, and the French Minister of Economy announced that he had been infected with the virus.

In an indication of the beginning of the second wave in Europe, France re-imposed precautionary measures in the capital, Paris, and the British government decided to impose local lockdown restrictions again to prevent the spread of the Corona virus in parts of Manchester, northern England.

In addition, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned that his country is facing a “second wave” of the Corona epidemic, at a time when his government does not rule out resorting to a new comprehensive isolation as the “last line of defense.”

The Spanish capital, Madrid, which is an epidemic hotspot, also announced that it would restrict movement to about 13% of its population, with the aim of limiting the outbreak of the new Corona virus.

Preparing vaccines soon

In light of the successive news about the imminent supply of vaccines, starting next October, many governments and global pharmaceutical companies are racing to find effective and safe vaccines against the virus, stop the bleeding of human and economic losses and control the increase in the rates of infection with Covid 19.

Russia was the first country to announce that it had succeeded in reaching a vaccine, after claiming that clinical trials conducted on humans had shown promising results.

The report of the Lancet medical journal stated that everyone who took the Russian vaccine “Sputnik” developed antibodies to fight the virus without experiencing any serious side effects.

20 million doses

For its part, the American company Moderna revealed that it is on its way to produce 20 million doses of its experimental vaccine for Corona virus by the end of the year, while maintaining its goal of processing 500 million to one billion doses in 2021.

Moderna is likely to finish developing a vaccine against the emerging corona virus in November, but said that this may be possible in the month of October.

AstraZeneca vaccine

After the shock that the international community received with the announcement of the temporary suspension of clinical trials of the “AstraZeneca” vaccine due to the side effects that appeared on a patient in Britain, Oxford University has returned to resume trials of the Corona virus vaccine, which it has developed in cooperation with AstraZeneca, the pharmaceutical company.

The European Union also announced the signing of a contract to purchase 300 million doses of a potential vaccine that the two international pharmaceutical companies are developing: Sanofi of France and GlaxoSmithKline of Britain, to be the second agreement of its kind to be signed by the Union after its agreement with the British “AstraZeneca”.

Chinese vaccine

An official with the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention announced that coronavirus vaccines being developed in China may be ready for use by the general public as early as November.

The country’s chief biosafety expert, Wu Guizen, said that the country’s stage three vaccine candidates’ clinical trials are running smoothly and Chinese citizens can receive vaccinations in November or December.

There are more than one Arab country that confirmed its interest in the Chinese vaccine after the success of clinical trials that were conducted in previous periods, led by the UAE, Egypt and Jordan.

Earlier, Egypt began conducting the third phase of clinical trials of the Chinese vaccine on the population, and the trials are scheduled to continue throughout the month of September.

Heavy losses for the Gulf states

The countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council tried to reduce the size of the damage and the heavy losses as a result of the repercussions of the Coronavirus by imposing closures and stopping commercial activities and businesses, but the precautionary measures taken by the Gulf governments did not result in a decrease in the number of infections or deaths.

This comes in light of the heavy economic losses due to the increase in government spending to combat the virus, and the collapse of oil prices due to the decline in demand due to the suspension of air traffic and the suspension of economic activities in the countries of the world, which exacerbated the budget deficits of the Gulf countries that depend on financial imports for oil exports.

Kuwait: 4 million doses of vaccine

The Kuwaiti government is heading to import about 4 million doses of vaccine against the “Corona” virus from 5 global destinations; This is after the success of the clinical trials and their official approval by international organizations, according to what health sources said to “Al-Qabas”.

In a related development, the UAE announced the urgent approval to use a vaccine against the emerging corona virus for members of the first line of defense.

The UAE and Saudi Arabia have also reached an agreement with Russia to test the new vaccine in the two countries, according to Kirill Dmitriev, head of Russia’s sovereign wealth fund.
