National Guard To Protect Oil
The National Guard has officially taken over the responsibility of securing and protecting the oil installations which till then was the responsibility of the Ministry of Interior, reports Al-Rai daily. The daily added, this is done in the framework of bilateral cooperation between the two security institutions.
A source familiar with the issue told the daily, the protection of the oil sites of all oil companies has been transferred from the Ministry of Interior to the National Guard, which is responsible for securing and protecting the oil wells and surrounding areas and buildings, in addition to inspecting vehicles and checking individuals who enter oil sites.
The source added, the Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) has notified its employees and project contractors to cooperate with the National Guard to ensure their safety so that the production and work of oil companies are not affected, and that the Guards will now be manning the checkpoints at all the oil fields in the central region (Burgan, Maqwa’a and Ahmadi). No one will be permitted to enter the office without showing the entry permit.
The source said the General Department of Facilities Security in the Ministry of Interior shall be tasked with the protection of the Central Bank of Kuwait instead of the National Guard, pointing out that these changes in tasks come following the implementation of the memorandum of understanding signed between the Interior Ministry and the National Guard to exchange a number of security tasks between the two sides.
The source pointed out that the cooperation between the two sides is aimed at unify the opening of new horizons that contribute to the consolidation of visions in terms of security plans, and the exchange of roles to reach the desired goal in the areas of securing some vital and important sites.
