Plainclothes police from the Money Crimes Department have taken into custody an unidentified senior employee of the Kuwait Municipality for receiving KD 10,000 in bribe for issuing a ‘certificate’ and sharing the money with a company representative, reports Al- Rai daily.
The daily added, the arrest could lead to the arrest of more people because it turned out the suspects had completed a similar transaction concerning a residential complex and there is belief the men may have accomplished many more similar transactions. Director General of the General Department of Criminal Investigation Acting Brigadier Mohammed Al Sharhan acting on information sent plainclothesmen to investigate the issue and took the men into custody.
According to a security source, the arrest came after police sent a mole with a request for a forged certificate and caught the Egyptian mandoub in the act and during interrogation he admitted to committing the crime in collusion with the senior official from the Municipality. According to the security source, a Syrian has also been taken into custody for playing the role of mediator between the municipality employee and mandoub on the one hand and the owners of transactions on the other hand. The Syrian mediator was caught inside a cafÈ in Salmiya.
When police raided the home of the mandoub after getting permission from the Public Prosecution, police found similar forged documents. The daily has learned that after the Minister of Communications and Minister of State for Municipal Affairs Essa Al-Kandari was informed about the case he has called for opening an investigation into the issue and check all transactions that have been completed over the past five years.
