More Than 1,000 Job Openings In Kuwait, Including Expat Positions
Despite efforts to prioritize Kuwaiti employment, Kuwait Municipality has announced a significant number of new jobs open to both citizens and expats. As part of the annual budget report, 1,090 vacancies are listed, including 36 positions in the funeral department designated for expats who will wash the deceased ritually and another 25 positions for hearse drivers.
A report also mentions openings for accountants, engineers in architecture, electricity, and mechanics, but it is unclear whether foreign applicants can apply for these positions. Kuwaiti nationals hold administrative roles across the municipality's branches.
It is estimated that the new budget, effective April 2024, will allocate KD190 million for wages and compensation, which represents an increase of KD9 million from the current budget.
The public sector in Kuwait has a workforce of around 483,200 people, with foreigners making up 23% of that total - the highest proportion in the Gulf Cooperation Council. Public Authority for Civil Information data from February 2024 puts the combined government and private sector workforce at 1.9 million, with 75% employed in the private sector. According to a recent census, expats make up approximately 3.2 million of Kuwait's 4.6 million residents.
During the last few years, Kuwait has concentrated its efforts on creating jobs for its citizens, replacing foreign employees, and addressing the country's demographic imbalance.
