MoH: New Requirements For Pharmacists And Assistant Professions

Minister of Health Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi recently issued Ministerial Decision No.160/2024, specifying the requirements for obtaining a license to practice pharmacist and assistant professions in the public and private sectors, reports Al-Anba daily. Article One of the decision stipulates the cancellation of Decision No. 88/2024 on amending Article Three of Ministerial Decision No. 395/1997 about the executive regulations of Law No. 28/1996 to be as follows: The requirements for obtaining a license to practice the pharmacist profession are:
1. The applicant for a license to practice pharmacist profession must hold a valid and accredited Pharmacology certificate.
2. The applicant for assistant jobs must hold a valid and accredited certificate in his field of specialization.
3. The applicant must submit the experience certificate which must be authorized by the relevant institutions
4. The applicant must be committed to good behavior and must not have been subjected to penalties for crimes against honor unless he is rehabilitated.
5. The applicant must pass the medical test according to the measures defined by the Higher Health Council in the Ministry of Health.
6. The Kuwaiti applicant for a pharmacist license must present a valid Kuwait Pharmacology Society membership card.
7. The license to practice pharmacist profession and assistant jobs is nullified in the following cases:
â– Death of the license holder,
â– If the holder is found guilty of committing a crime against honor unless he is rehabilitated,
â– If he is reported by the relevant department in the Ministry of Health that he is unable to do his work due to health problems,
â– If he committed immoral acts that negatively affected his job and reputation.
The pharmacists and those occupying assistant jobs in public institutions are allowed to obtain a temporary license for one year until they submit their accredited academic certificates. Meanwhile, those who wish to obtain a license to work in the private sector must fulfill all of the abovementioned requirements and pay the fees stipulated in Decision No. 278/2019.
The license is canceled upon termination of the contract with the employer, death of the holder if the holder is proven incapable of doing his job according to a medical report, if the holder is proven to have committed a crime against honor, and if the holder does not practice the profession for 30 consecutive days after obtaining the license without a valid excuse.
