Moh Is Planning To Probe Disappearance Of Medicines
In early 2017, Ministry of Health is planning to form an ad hoc committee to investigate the disappearance of medicines and treatment supplies from central pharmacies and polyclinics without written prescriptions signed by the doctors, reports Al-Shahed daily.
Minister of Health Dr. Jamal Al Harbi will form this committee as an alternative to the previous committees which proved ineffective and were unable to complete the investigation duties. The new committee will focus on the central pharmacies in general and specialized hospitals which store drugs worth millions of dinars. A source explained that a large portion of expensive medicines are given without prescriptions to the extent that large quantities were found in the possession of cleaner workers and security guards.
Some of them were sold in the black market and others were smuggled outside the country. These drugs were imported from European and American countries and from international companies and cost millions of dinars annually
