Moe Calls For Lifting The Ban On Hiring Expats To Fill Specialized Teaching Vacancies

27 April 2021 Education

The administrative sector in the Ministry of Education (MoE) asked the Civil Service Bureau to lift the ban on hiring expats for teaching jobs, which were unfilled in the last fiscal year, an educational source revealed to Al-Rai daily.

The Ministry requires around 300 specializations to meet the needs in the public education sector such as for teaching the disabled in schools for the next academic year 2021-2022.

The source suggested that the ministry’s request for lifting the ban on frozen jobs would be accepted, so that the total available specializations would reach 600 for the next academic year in the list of specializations specified by the public education sector. The source mentioned that the Bureau has no problem with schools employing expats as they are aware of an existing shortage in some specializations.

This approach does not contradict the Kuwaitization policy set by the Bureau for maintaining teaching jobs at 70 percent for Kuwaiti teachers and 30 for expatriates, stressing the ministry’s commitment to the decision, pointing out the percentage of Kuwaiti teachers currently stands at 74 percent, while the percentage of expats is 26 percent in the education sector.
