Ministry Of Education Considers Distance Learning For Ramadan's Last Ten Days

27 March 2024 Education

The Ministry of Education is contemplating the adoption of distance education, particularly as the final stretch of the sacred month of Ramadan approaches. Originally, plans were in place for only the last two days of Ramadan. However, insider sources disclosed to ‘Al-Anbaa’ newspaper that both the public education sector and the coordination department have drafted a memorandum for consideration.

This memorandum, slated for submission to Dr. Adel Al-Adwani, the Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, proposes transitioning student activities to distance learning for the last ten days. Under this plan, teachers would conduct lessons from school premises in accordance with the academic timetable assigned for each educational level.

Citing the success of previous online education initiatives and the familiarity of both educators and students with the digital learning platforms, the ministry sees fit to continue leveraging them as necessary.

Notably, next week's Thursday coincides with the parliamentary elections, with schools being handed over to the Ministries of Interior and Justice the day prior. Consequently, only April 7th and 8th remain open for regular school activities.

Given the likelihood of student absenteeism during these days, especially with April 9th designated as a day of rest, even during fasting, the Ministry of Education finds itself compelled to implement distance learning solutions. This move aims to address attendance challenges, particularly surrounding holiday periods.

Pending approval from Dr. Adel Al-Adwani, the Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, online education is anticipated to commence next Sunday.
