Mew Forms Committee To Buy Energy From Third Parties

Eng. Ali Al-Mousa, Minister of Electricity and Water, has established a technical committee — led by Assistant Undersecretary for the Electricity Transmission Networks Sector, Eng Mutlaq Al-Otaibi, and including senior officers and engineers — to investigate the mechanism for purchasing renewable energy produced by third parties.

According to a local Arabic daily, Al-decision Mousa states that the committee will be in charge of researching and studying the procurement mechanism, establishing relevant controls and procedures, and presenting a technical, financial, environmental, and legal study of the process of purchasing energy produced by third parties, as well as proposing a mechanism for its implementation in accordance with current legislation.

The committee is required to produce a report every two months, containing the outcomes of its work, for a period of one year from the date of the decision, after which it must hand over what it has completed to the minister's office.

According to sources, encouraging the production of energy from clean sources is one of Minister Al-current Mousa's priority files because of its importance, whether on the level of economic returns, diversifying and increasing sources of energy production, or on the level of environmental preservation, reducing harmful emissions from power plants and the emissions that result from them. on the use of fossil fuels.

According to the sources, the decision intends to promote private sector investment in renewable energy, create new engineering possibilities and employment, and accomplish Kuwait's energy growth objective.

According to the sources, the interest in growing clean energy production stems from rising power consumption and the need to transition to a more sustainable system in light of the world's extraordinary progress in renewable energy and energy efficiency.

The committee will focus on several aspects during its work, according to the sources, beginning with a survey of the most important developments and renewable energy projects in the world's leading countries in this field, followed by a study of the financial and economic feasibility of purchasing energy produced on rooftops or elsewhere, as well as the technical conditions and specifications for solar panels on rooftops in Kuwait.

According to the sources, the study will also include research on the environmental impact of solar panels, as well as a pilot study on a ministry-affiliated facility, which is a photovoltaic panel project for the roofs of the electricity and works buildings, to compare the project's cost when completed at current international prices.
