Lives Of Special Needs Children At Risk If Allowed To Attend Classes
In anticipation of 50 million dinars to be allocated by the Public Authority for Disabled Affairs as fees for students with disabilities studying in private schools – schools for children with special needs – the owners of these schools are believed to be pitting tremendous pressure on the Ministry of Education to allow students with severe disabilities to attend field work.
The pressures come despite the administrations are fully aware of the dangers to the lives and health of people with severe disabilities if they were to attend now when the corona pandemic is still around and continue to infect people, because even under normal conditions they are exposed to diseases due to their weak immunity, especially those with severe mental disabilities and autism especially during simple seasonal viruses.
The educational sources indicated that the Public Authority for Disabled Affairs has stopped paying fees to schools for people with disabilities, after the schools were closed upon ministerial decision due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The sources pointed out the Ministry of Education rejected the requests from the owners of these schools and referred the issue to the Ministry of Health and the latter announced the decision was left to the Ministry of Education, following which a tripartite committee was formed comprising members from the two ministries and the disability authority to study the request, despite the fact there is a clear agreement between the ministries of Health and Education that schools will not open except if there is an effective vaccine and the virus recedes.
