21 May 2020 Coronavirus

The head of the surgical department at Jaber Hospital, Dr. Salman Al-Sabah and Dr. Sulaiman Al-Mazidi, confirmed the success of the Kuwaiti research team and that they managed, within a short period, to develop a PCR test solution for the diagnosis of the emerging corona virus, considering it a “qualitative shift with national hands.”

Dr. Salman Al-Sabah said, “With the success of the manufacture of Corona swabs with Kuwaiti hands, we are facing a new achievement and quality shift with pure national hands.”

He pointed out that the accuracy of the diagnostic results of the developed solution is “excellent”, saying that this achievement is a quantum leap in terms of developing the capabilities of the health system in its war against the Corona pandemic.

He stated that the diagnosis of the disease by PCR or the so-called genetic polymerization device, which the World Health Organization considers the most accurate and important in the face and diagnosis of the Corona virus, requires taking a sample from the patient and mixing it with a solution called PCR KIT, which was developed.

He alluded to some of the difficulties that countries are currently facing regarding the increasing global demand at the present time for this solution, most notably the inability of international companies to meet the requirements required of it and high prices and wait for long periods of up to several months so that shipments can be received as well as delayed transportation procedures.

For his part, Dr. Suleiman Al-Mazidi said in a similar statement that in front of these challenges, the Ministry of Health took the initiative and started forming a research team to study the possibility of developing and manufacturing the solution locally.

Al-Mazidi confirmed the team’s success during a short period of developing and manufacturing the entire solution inside Kuwait with pure Kuwaiti hands, confirming that this achievement is a major quantum leap in facing the Corona virus pandemic and ways to address it.

He stated that the executive phase of this project was preceded by another stage over a period of two weeks to prepare to provide a place for the team under the supervision and approval of the Ministry of Health, which was to set up a laboratory in Jaber Hospital and equip it during a record period with the best equipment and in accordance with the highest levels and quality standards.

He explained that the team is currently entering the initial stage of production, indicating that its next step that it is working hard on is to accelerate the pace of productive capacity in quantities sufficient for the overall need of the country and to diagnose and treat people with the Corona virus.

He noted the positives resulting from this achievement of providing large sums to the state and avoiding delaying the arrival of orders to other fruits.

Dr. Al-Mazidi and Dr. Salman Al-Sabah expressed sincere thanks to the Minister of Health Sheikh Dr. Basil Al-Sabah and the Undersecretary of the Ministry Dr. Mustafa Reda for providing all aspects of support and support to the team and the adoption of the idea since its inception.

She also thanked the Director of Mubarak Health Zone, the director of Jaber Hospital, the head of the laboratory in Jaber Hospital, Dr. Tariq Mandani, and the chief technician of the laboratory, Hana Al-Butti.

The price of cooperation between the Ministry of Interior, the Research Institute, Kuwait University and two national companies affirmed that everyone’s cooperation and dedication was a password in the project’s success in a record period.

It is mentioned that the research team includes epidemiologists and microbiologists, Dr. Muhammad Al-Ghunaim, in cooperation with the forensic evidence team represented by Dr. Mohamed Al-Enezi and Colonel Dr. Hussein Al-Saleh and Dr. Lulwa Al-Dabbous and in coordination with the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research represented by Dr. Mohammed Al-Otaibi and the Kuwait University team represented by Dr. Waseem Shehadeh and Sheikha Al-Shammari and Anfal Al-Adwani.
