Kuwaiti Jailed In Dud Cheques Case
The Misdemeanor Circuit of the Court of First Instance sentenced a Kuwaiti citizen to three-month imprisonment with hard labor for issuing two dud cheques to a compatriot. The court ordered the referral of the case to a competent civil court. The Public Prosecution had pressed charges against the citizen who issued in bad faith to the order of the victim two dud cheques worth a total of KD 180,000 drawn on one of the banks. Lawyer Khawla Al-Hassawi, who represented the victim in court, demanded civil compensation of KD 5,001. The court gave the aforementioned ruling after being convinced by the statements of the plaintiff counsel, the investigation papers and the letter sent from the bank that the signature on the two dud cheques belong to the defendant.
Refai jail upheld: The Court of Appeals, presided over by Judge Nasr Al-Heyd, upheld the one month jail term imposed on Fuad Al-Refai for instigating sedition and offending the Shia sect and its members by attacking their faith and ‘husseiniyat’ in Kuwait.
