Kuwait, Us Celebrate 301 Report Lifting

10 May 2022 Kuwait

Kuwaiti and US authorities stressed the importance of Kuwait being removed from the US Watch List (the 2022 Special 301 Report) in terms of intellectual property since it will have a significant influence on Kuwait's economy and attract foreign investment.

In the presence of Kuwait's National Library Director Sheikha Rasha Al-Sabah, the US embassy in Kuwait staged a ceremony to remove the nation from the list. During the event, US Attache for Intellectual Property in the Middle East Peter Mehravai told reporters that removing Kuwait from the list is a fantastic first step toward boosting economic prospects in Kuwait for American enterprises.

He emphasized that intellectual property rights enable innovators such as engineers, artists, and designers to invest in the market. He said that this gives them confidence that their intellectual property would not be unlawfully published or copied.

He confirmed that American and international companies desire to invest in countries that protect intellectual property rights. Meanwhile, Eid Al-Rashidi, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry's Assistant Undersecretary for Commercial Control and Consumer Protection Sector, said the move was made in response to the country's efforts. He was referring to the increased collaboration between Kuwait and the US in recent years.

The Office of the United States Trade Representative publishes an annual report on the effectiveness and efficiency of business partners' efforts to protect intellectual property rights.- KUNA
