Kuwait To Open 5 New Vaccination Centres For Pfizer Jabs

Kuwait’s Ministry of Health is planning on opening five fully equipped vaccination centers to speed up its vaccination campaign, local media reported.

The decision comes as the Mishref fairground, the only vaccination centre administrating the Pfizer vaccine, is witnessing large crowds as a delay in the third shipment of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine prompts the government to set aside the remaining quantities of the Oxford vaccine for those awaiting their second dose.

Until the new shipment arrives, Kuwait will be administering the Pfizer vaccine as it has a large quantity of those, given that it so far received 14 shipments.

Since Kuwait received the first shipment of the Pfizer vaccine on December 24, it has been stored and being administered at the Mishref Fairground as it is where the freezers are.

Increase vaccination centres

So far, Kuwait has a total of 22 vaccination centres, 21 of which are health clinics set up to administer the Oxford vaccine.

For those that are bedridden, the Ministry of Health has allocated mobile vaccination units for those unable to travel to the vaccination centres. In addition, Kuwait has been using the mobile units to vaccinate workers in commercial and ministerial jobs.

After Ramadan Kuwait is set to open a drive-thru vaccination centre at the South Island of the Al Jaber Causeway bridge.

One million milestone

Just a few days ago, Kuwait reached a milestone after the Ministry of Health reported that more than one million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered.

Kuwait has currently vaccinated around 25 per cent of its population.
